Right Place, Ride Time

The Ride:

The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is a ~2,770 mile trek starting in Banff, Canada and ending at the Mexico border near Antelope Wells, New Mexico. The ride starts in Canada and progresses through the states of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico and concludes at the US/Mexico border.  Ninety percent of the route is off-road and the route crisscrosses the continental divide many times.  The route is the most recognized and important off-pavement Mountain Bike route in North America. This ride is a serious test of endurance with over 200,000 feet in elevation gain/loss.

Riders:

Bruce Gleasman (60):

I worked at Eastman Kodak as an Environmental Coordinator and retired a few years back.  Currently I own and operate a handyman service in Brevard, North Carolina.

I'm doing the ride to support my best friend’s crazy quest as he was threatening to do this journey solo. Since I'm a little older and wiser I can give him the support that he needs to finish. It should be a great adventure as long as we don't get eaten!

Brad Lankford (54):

I am currently a Supply Chain Management consultant who is on a work Sabbatical for this ride.

I think that the best way to describe why I am doing this ride is for the reset, challenge and adventure that I think the ride will provide.  We have never attempted anything on this scale so it will be interesting to see how the reality of this one plays out for two older riders.  The biological clock is ticking and the window to do this ride while small is still open. We have been blessed with the health and resources to do this ride and hence “right place, ride time” is our ride theme. With this journal you will have a near real time (consultant jargon) view of how this one plays out. Hope that you enjoy it!
